If you didn't think the government was out of touch with reality then you might want to go see a doctor. House Democrats (they are in control by a majority of votes), and to be fair some Republicans undoubtedly got in on the action, are proposing a stop-gap budget bill of $410 billion dollars to "keep the government running." This is an increase of 8.5% over the previous year. Included in this small amount are literally thousands (about 9,000) of earmarks - AKA political pet projects. This is on top of the "stimulus" bill that included hidden earmarks such as money for a power plant that conveniently matched an exact project in the U.S. Or how about money for high-speed rail service from LA to Las Vegas for Harry Reid? No, no earmarks in that that $787 billion bill. Now, is this any way to reduce the deficit by 50% in four years?
Now what is so essential that they NEED this money?
How about $500k for a pilot program that will pick up part of the tab to mail postcards to homes notifying residents that a meeting somewhere close to them will have a senator there. Really, this is just $500k but this is just ridiculous. Here are some more and remember there are 9,000 examples of these:
- $200,000 for “Tattoo Removal Violence Prevention Outreach Program
- $5.8 million earmark for the “Ted Kennedy Institute for the Senate…for the planning and design of a building & an endowment
- $2M for for the promotion of astronomy in Hawaii
- $100,00 For some Maine lobsters? Sure, why not.
- $295,000 for Florida Marine Sportfish Replenishment - i.e., money to make sure weekend warriors have fun fish to catch
- $100,000 for a program called...Seals as Sentinels
It is becoming increasingly clear that the powers that be are out of touch with reality and think now is the time to catch up with 30 years of social agenda and political payback. While the President still campaigns everywhere he goes that all these problems, let me be clear, he says all of these problems are from the last 8 years, our country is burning. We are burning cash on programs we do not need, we are burning the patience of the people footing the bill (you know, the 55% that still pay taxes). Do the House and Senate leaders think they can continue this unabated? Clearly they do and to us it seems as if there are a couple of classes now in this country.
- At the top we have the ruling elite - elected for life officials. These people do whatever it takes to make sure they continue to win. Whether is moving districts around so the demographics are more in their favor to pork for voting blocks.
- Next up are the voting blocks - this is mostly the powerful unions in this country, both public and private. Our current elected officials owe most of their good fortune to these unions and curry their favor with pork and other items meant to expand the unions and their power - thereby increasing the block size and vote size for the people in power.
- Next we have the non-taxpaying citizens who are expanding at an alarming rate. Don't be fooled by political mumbo-jumbo that everyone pays taxes such as payroll taxes and sales tax. The fact is that we are talking about actual income and this number falls around 55% of the country now pays income tax. This is a number that has been projected to one day soon drop under 50% and approach 45% or lower. That means the majority of Americans will pay no taxes and will actually get money back from the IRS. This is what they call wealth transfer.
- Last up and least is of course the other group - the taxpaying citizens. This is an shrinking class that is asked to work harder and "contribute" more each time a new spending bill is passed. This group of course contains working families (both husband and wife have jobs) but they don't count as "working families" according to the popular vernacular. When a Democrat talks about giving money back to 95% of working families, they are not talking about the taxpaying working family class - this is something we are painfully aware of.
What can be done to change this alarming trend into neo-socialism? Vote with your money and spend less of it. Be smart and don't vote with the herd. In essence, stop being the silent majority and squeak as loud as you can or this $410 billion will just be another notch in the belt and proof that they can do whatever they want with your money.
